OCT 2011 RESULTS

A successful Goanna Pulling Championships was held on Sunday October 2nd at the Wooli Sports Ground.  The weather thankfully held out for the day allowing Goanna Pulling, Wood Chops & Tug-a-war all to be contested.  A fun filled family day was had by all with novelty races for all ages and prizes, trophies and prizemoney in excess of $5300 handed out.  Norm Heinz Bush Balladeer, whip cracking demonstrations, amusement rides and market stalls entertained the crowd in excess of 1700.

The Wooli Sports Club Committee would like to thank all the wonderful sponsors who provided Prizemoney and prizes, without which we would be unable to continue this unique Australian Event.  Thank you also to the Wooli community, Wooli Rural Fire Service and Wooli S.E.S who all helped to make this event a success and showcase our beautiful town.

Rain Forces Postponement of 2010 event to 9th January 2011

Unfortunately torrential rain forced organizers to postpone Goanna Pulling to be held on the 3rd October 2010 until 9th January 2011.  The rain continued leaving us no other alternative than to cancel this event.  Not to be disheartened it will now be held on 2nd October 2011.

Tucabia teen takes goanna pulling title

A young diesel fitter apprentice from Tucabia has become the new Australian National Goanna Pulling champion.

Brad Milne, 19, took out the heavy weight division on Sunday at Wooli, in his first year vying for the top title.

The quiet champ first tasted success in the sport three years ago when he took out the light weight division. He returned last year to contest the middle weight title, and came out second. Preparation for his chance at the big title this year included 'a little bit of gym, work, and eating'.

In addition to his broad shoulders and large chest, Milne said technique played a part in this year's success.

"Just try to get you technique right and make sure your hands don't slip. Keep low and make sure you keep your neck back so the belt doesn't go over your head," he said.

Other results on Sunday included: Women's under-70kg Frankie Gosewisch, Sawtell; Women's over-70kg Tasha Relf, Wooli; Men's tyro Lachlan Scott, 14, Curlewis; Men's lightweight Damien O'Mahoney, Grafton; Men's middleweight John Reynolds, Coffs Harbour.
